I feel that I have a good grasp on the concept of lighting. I’ve been told that I know the human body well. I can say with some certainty that I understand movement and design. It is all in the work that I have done in the past. Most of my work is a compilation of nudes and abstractions, evenly lit and dramatically arranged. But I have always seemed to fall into my work. Stumbling upon a style or concept that interests me, but never really setting out with a mission to create a consistent, coherent body of work.

It seems that I have managed to entertain myself by creating work that has a fanciful, quirky, even fairytale quality, but I feel that all of my past work has lacked an element of intention. So, looking forward, I am setting out to create a collection of images that are drastically exaggerated. Each image should be wildly fanciful, like a fairytale with all of its demented possibilities, good and bad. All my images will be bright with color but darkened by irony.

I hope to capture the untamable creativity of Serge Lutens’ portraits and merge it with the control that Richard Avedon had for fashion. I want to make the bizarre seem almost believable. I want my photographs to bridge the gap between fantasy and realism.
